We are very aware and sense of responsibility that comes with this project, “The Pillars of the Earth” is one of the most read books and more sold in world literature, and comes with a broad and sustainable basis of millions of fans. To meet their high expectations of our game will be a huge challenge – but we are very keen to face “, explains Carsten Fichtelmann, founder and CEO of daedalic entertainment. “Together with Bastei Lübbe and Ken Follett we determined that the genre of adventure games is the best and most appropriate way to adapt and express the substantial depth of such a historical novel. Adventure games are interactive literature, and we at Daedalic we dedicated to the perfection of this kind of gaming experience. We are very happy and feel very honored that our work is recognized by one of the best selling authors in the world, and to be allowed to work in interactivity “, adds Carsten Fichtelmann.
“To our knowledge, this is the first time for a computer game of this magnitude to be released simultaneously with the new book by an international bestseller author,” adds Felix Rudloff, CEO of program public Relations at Bastei Lübbe AG. “It will not only have a positive marketing effect by the novel about the game. Vice versa, we believe that the game will also increase the interest in the new book”, Rudloff predicted further.
“The Pillars of the Earth”, published in 1989, takes place in medieval England, in the fictional town of Kingsbridge. Setting around the construction of a cathedral, the historical novel traces the development and conflicts between the clergy, the nobility and the common people, suffering from exploitation.
Bastei Lübbe and Daedalic Entertainment will publish the game in 2017 in several countries as a commercial version and digitally worldwide on consoles, PC and mobile platforms. The game will be translated into more than ten languages.
